This past weekend the world grieved and paid respects to as Oprah coined "Amercia's First Black Princess". Whitney Elizabeth Houston's homegoing services were held Saturday at her childhood church New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. The celebrities that were in attendance were Kevin Costner, Jordin Sparks, Oprah Winfrey, Micheal Eric Dyson, and Roberta Flack, just to name a few. However, the most talked about celebrity was Bobby Brown, Houston's ex-husband.
The world is yet again left with the surreal pain and sorrow of the death of yet another pioneer in MUSIC history! Just weeks after the funeral of ETTA JAMES and days after the demise of DON CORNELIUS American super talent singer/actress WHITNEY HOUSTON was found dead Saturday February 11, 2012 at The Beverly Hills Hilton unresponsive on the floor of her fourth floor room. After failed efforts to revive Ms. Houston she was pronounced dead at 3:55PST. Reports say that Cissy Houston (mother) had spoken with the songtress less than 30 min prior and she seemed okay. As of today there have still been no official statements released on behalf of her mother, her daughter, or her cousin Dionne Warrick.
Once you go BLACK do you Really go back???????
Every ethnic group has at one point exploited the African American community including the African American community themselves. As you travel through urban neighborhoods you find that every ethnic group has a thriving business in the community other than the majority that inhabit that local area. That is a problem! Reports have shown for years that the African American community has the greatest buying power and which in turn could effect massive political and cultural influence. With that being said, we have to ask the question WHY DON'T AFRICAN AMERICANS SPEND WITH ONE ANOTHER?

There is an alarming myth that black owned businesses give bad customer service and that the quality of product/service is not the same as going to other cultures. Where did that myth stem from and how can we change that perception? Well we can think of a few ways. For one If you are really concerned about the state of the black economy research local businesses in your area. Also, spread the word tell your friends and family about the services certain businesses provide and with the success of social media the "good news" will definitely spread.
